Different initiatives dedicated to the liberation of Bulgaria brought together the Bulgarian communities in different parts of the world.

“Awakening with a horo” is organized on 3 March for the fifth year running. The initiative belongs to Azbukari association and “Bulgarians united for Bulgaria” and it throws a bridge among Bulgarians living in all parts of the world who dance the horo together to show that the Bulgarian spirit is alive. Horo is danced in towns and villages across Bulgaria as well as in Bulgarian cultural centres abroad, at Bulgarian embassies and schools.

March 3 is one of the emblematic dates in national memory, a vivid symbol of the power of the Bulgarian spirit and of unity, Bulgaria’s ambassador to Canada Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski said addressing the Bulgarians living in Canada.

The Bulgarian community in Los Angeles is marking the date with a festive concert for the ninth year running. The celebrations began emotionally with the national anthems of Bulgaria and USA, performed by opera prima Mariana Popzlateva. Then Bulgarian children illustrated the history of Bulgaria through the ages with songs and dances.

The first Bulgarian weekend school Vasil Levski in Valencia, Spain also greeted Bulgaria on social media with a horo dance.

The Bulgarian cultural centre in Midrand and the Association of Bulgarians in South Africa will also mark 3 March at the end of the week. Bulgarians living in faraway Africa will present a special porgrmame, there will be a festive meal and dancing.
