More than 30 police officers of Bulgarian descent living in the United States work in Illinois and other US states in the frontline efforts to maintain order and curb the spread of the coronavirus. Most recently, they united in a Bulgarian-American Police Association, the BNR correspondent in Chicago Elena Tsaneva reports.

The new association joins together more than 30 Bulgarians who work in the US as police officers, detectives or investigators, as the president of the association is Mario Vulkov. Police officers with Bulgarian roots are currently most numerous in Chicago, Illinois, but  some of them work also in other cities across the USA. Among them are Miroslav Bashev who serves in Maui Police Department, Hawaii, investigator Dilyana Nicolova working in Lexington, Kentucky, deputy Sheriff Asen Dimitrov in the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office in Florida, and Officer Veronica Metanova in Wisconsin
