Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry has announced that there is a Bulgarian national aboard the pirate-seized ship off the town of Cotonou on the coast of Benin. He is the captain of the attacked containership. 11 crew members of the Tommi Ritscher ship have been released. The captain and 7 of the sailors remain in captivity. The ship sails under the flag of Portugal.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working in co-operation with Bulgarian embassies abroad and UN organizations to release the Bulgarian captain.
