Cocaine trafficking network passing through Bulgaria dismantled

An international cocaine trafficking network has been dismantled. The operation was carried out in Spain, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Columbia.

18 people have been arrested in the 4 countries, among them Maradona’s former doctor Mauricio Vergara whose clinic was at the centre of the network. The cocaine was hidden in fruit boxes. After arriving in Europe, the drug was extracted from the packages by way of a complex chemical process.

One ton of cocaine was intercepted in Bulgaria in January, hidden in a shipment of more than 6,600 boxes of limes and pineapples coming via Greece from Columbia.
