People aged over 60 shall be subject to mandatory hospitalization if infected with Covid-19 whatever their state, Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev decreed. People with underlying diseases, immune system disorders or people who have difficulty breathing shall also be admitted to hospital. After being discharged they are subject to a mandatory 28-day quarantine.
All people with a confirmed coronavirus infection are subject to mandatory 28-day isolation at home, even if they do not have any symptoms. No home visits are permitted during the isolation. People who have been in close contact with infected persons are also subject to mandatory 14-day isolation at home.
The following are considered to be contact persons:
- All persons cohabitating with the individual infected and all persons who have had any physical contact with him/her;
- All persons who have had unprotected contact with infectious secretions;
- All persons who have spent more than 15 minutes inside a closed space together with an infected individual at a distance of at least 2 metres;
- All persons who have traveled by airplane at a distance of up to two seats from an infected individual.
All persons who have entered the territory of Bulgaria are subject to mandatory 14-day quarantine. The hitherto effective regime remains valid for drivers of heavy-duty trucks and buses servicing international routes passing in transit not to be subject to quarantine.
Non-observance of quarantine is punishable by a prison sentence and a fine – a maximum of 5 years and up to EUR 25,000.
