Being a resident of the village of  in in vicinity of Gorna Oryahovitsa is a real privilege. The land is fertile and nature is kind to the locals who live in harmony with it and enjoy the beautiful views unfolding along the Yantra River.

The village of Parvomaytsi was formed in 1955 by the unification oftwo earlier existing smaller villages - Temnisko and Sergyuvets. The history of these settlements dates back to the 12thcentury, and the first written records date back to 1347, when the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Alexander signed a document mentioning the existence of the villages in this place.

The Feast of the Ascensionis the day in the Orthodox church calendar on which the locals celebrate the holiday of the village of Parvomaytsi. This year, the celebrations for Spassovden (Savior's Day) as this holiday is popular in Bulgaria, will not take place. A liturgy will be celebrated in the two churches of the village, erected in honor of Christ's ascension. The traditional sacrificial meal which is made there every year for the holiday is postponed indefinitely - this was announced for Radio Bulgaria by the mayor of the village Yasen Yankov.

And although the holiday today is more in the souls than in the square, we remind you of a meeting with residents of Parvomaytsi, who tell us about the vivid and colourful life of the village, about the holiday dedicated to the local dish "razsol" - a dish that is prepared especially for the Savior's Day fair, about the famous gardeners from this region, about the special local belts and many other things. Why are locals so proud of their village, we will find out from Radio Bulgaria’s archive publication HERE.
