Bulgarians from North Macedonia sue State Agency of Bulgarians Abroad

Photo: BGNES

Bulgarians from the republic of North Macedonia have filed a lawsuit against the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, BGNES news agency reports. The reason is the refusal of the State Agency to issue certificates of Bulgarian origin. Those affected dispute the new practice of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad not to recognize the documents of the Bulgarian Exarchate and the internationally recognized statistics issued in 1900 by the Bulgarian Literary Society (now the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences). In the census of the Bulgarians in Macedonia made by Acad. Vasil Kanchov, all Bulgarian families in the then Macedonia under Ottoman rule are listed.
