Eurostat: Unemployment in Bulgaria falls unexpectedly

In May 2020, unemployment in the EU picked up slower than expected, while Bulgaria’s unemployment even marked a surprising decline, Eurostat announced. The EU unemployment rate increased to 6.7% in May, up from 6.6% in April. In Bulgaria unemployment rate decreased to 4.6% in May, down from 4.8% a month earlier. In May, a total of 154,000 Bulgarians were jobless as compared to 160,000 in April. In May 2019, the number of unemployed Bulgarians amounted to 140,000.
