“I have said from the first day that I would work to support businesses, in dialogue and in search of concrete solutions,” said newly appointed Minister of Tourism Mariyana Nikolova in an interview for BNT.

She stated that 38,000 people are currently benefitting from the voucher system in support of tourism. The ministry is relying on the number of tourists going up in August.

“We should talk of Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination,” Minister Nikolova said, and added that she is planning to hold talks with the ambassadors of a number of countries on the development of tourism. The focus will be on tourists from Russia and Great Britain.

“We are currently suffering losses from the British market,” Mariyana Nikolova said and specified: “We are open to Great Britain but when they return from Bulgaria, British tourists are subject to 14-day quarantine.”

Representatives of the tourist industry are planning a protest in Sofia today.
