Tourism crashes in July on account of Covid-19 pandemic

Revenue in tourism from accommodation in July plummeted by 64.6% compared to July 2019, National Statistical Institute data show.

The decline is steepest with revenue coming from foreign tourists - 77.1%, with Bulgarian tourists the drop is by 11.6%. The overall bed occupancy rate in July 2020 is 30.1%, or a drop by 29.9% compared to a year earlier.

2,768 accommodation facilities with more than 10 beds were open for business in July. 427, 000  Bulgarian citizens spent at average of 3.1 nights at hotel facilities in July.  186,200 foreign tourists spent an average of 5.1 nights mostly at 4 and 5 star hotels, the BNR reports.
