Bulgaria ranks 55th out of 129 countries in the International Property Rights Index, according to the Institute for Market Economics - IME. Bulgaria has 5.72 points out of 10 and is between Romania and India. Compared to 2019, the country's score rose by 0.15 points and Bulgaria climbed six places in the ranking.

The average result in the world is 5.73 points. Finland holds the first place in the ranking with 8.65 points. The lowest scores for Bulgaria are still in the fields of legal and political environment (4.9 points) because of the weaknesses of the judiciary and corruption. The protection of intellectual property rights is assessed with 5.9 points, which shows that there was no adequate protection of copyright, the IME commented.
