The British Embassy in Sofia has informed the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a note that from December 15, passengers arriving in the UK from Bulgaria will have the option of paying to take a private Covid-19 test after 5 days of self-isolation in England.

A negative result will absolve the passenger from the requirement to self-isolate for the remainder of the 14 days quarantine period. A test providers' list will be published shortly on the website of the British Embassy

The test should be done at their expense, and the list of accredited laboratories will be published on the website of the British government - https://www.gov.uk. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The new provision enters into force on 15 December 2020.

The requirement to fill in a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before the trip remains valid - https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk

Citizens traveling to England will have to indicate in the form whether they will take advantage of the opportunity to be released from self-isolation after the 5th day - the so-called ‘test to release’ scheme.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that passengers are not obliged to use the option for testing after the 5th day. If they do not take such action, they will have to remain quarantined for the entire 14-day period.
