No political decision on the draft amendments to the Labor Code prepared by Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association has been taken yet. The draft provides for the introduction of the concept “forced closure” in cases where companies cease operation due to an order of a state body, and for the relevant compensations for workers and employers to be due, Bulgaria’s Minister of Labor and Social Policy Denitsa Sacheva said, BNR reporter Maria Kostova reported.

The proposal would cost the state hundreds of millions and should be considered, Minister Sacheva said further. Denitsa Sacheva pointed out that in principle she supported the need for firm anti-crisis legislation and added that “when comparing Bulgaria with Germany, for example, the main difference is that in Germany there is legislation that is immediately activated during a crisis”. In addition, Germany provides more funds for businesses, thanks to which the money reaches its destination quicker, Denitsa Sacheva went on to say.
