Covid-19 in Bulgaria: Day 351

There will be enough vaccines for all Bulgarians willing to get inoculated against Covid-19: Angel Kunchev

The amount of vaccines expected to be delivered in Bulgaria by the end of February will be enough for all people who want to get inoculated against Covid-19, announced BTA quoting this country’s Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev. More than 500,000 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines are expected in March, Dr. Kunchev pointed out. The vaccination centers will be kept open until vaccines are administered to all people waiting to get inoculated against Covid-19, Associate Professor Angel Kunchev went on to say. At the end of March, Bulgaria will receive Janssen's vaccine, which is currently being assessed by the European Medicines Agency, said Angel Kunchev. Janssen's Covid-19 vaccine is a single dose, which will further facilitate the vaccination process, Angel Kunchev went on to say.

Mass vaccination against Covid-19 continues

4,088 vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, which is 3.5 times less than the number of vaccines administered in the previous day, when a total of 13, 754 people received Covid-19 vaccines. 318 health inspectorates and hospitals began mass vaccination. All general practitioners are also joinging the vaccination campaign. On Sunday, Bulgaria’s Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev has inspected the vaccination process in Plovdiv. New vaccination centers have opened in almost all district cities.

UK variant becomes the most common form of Covid-19 in Bulgaria

The British coronavirus variant has already become the most common form of Covid-19 in Bulgaria, Professor Iva Ugrinova, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, commented in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. In her words, all strains of Covid-19 will be registered in Bulgaria. The RNA vaccines could be quickly modified to target the new coronavirus variants. The RNA vaccine has a very high efficiency against Covid-19, because it is based on a cutting-edge technology, Professor Ugrinova went on to say. Studies indicate that that immunity to Covid-19 lasts 8 months after infection. According to scientists, however, immunity may last up to 2 years after infection.

Bulgaria reports 548 new cases of Covid-19 out of 5,700 tests performed

548 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 5,700 tests performed. 3 medics have been diagnosed with Covid-19. 9.6% of the tests have returned positive result, indicate data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal. 3,846 patients are in hospital, including 316 in intensive care units. 160 patients have recovered and 18 people have died in the past 24 hours. 4,088 people have been inoculated against Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, thus bringing the total number of vaccinations in Bulgaria to 108,000. 27,000 Bulgarians have already received their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
