A national plan for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria should be drawn up by 30 June, 2021, and the indicative date for membership of the currency union is 1 January, 2024.

This is made clear by a draft decree by the Council of Ministers for the formation of a Coordination Council to prepare Bulgaria for membership of the Eurozone, posted on the Ministry of Finance’s website. The Coordination Council is to be headed by the minister of finance. The plan is to indicate how long the Lev and the Euro will be in use concurrently, fix a deadline for the exchange of Levs to Euros and other essential details, the website investor.bg writes.
