Bulgaria's second-largest city Plovdiv and Plovdiv district are most preferred for internal migration, the Municipality of Plovdiv has announced. A total of 194,242 people changed their residence within the country in 2020. 21,320 of them changed their residence with an address in Plovdiv.
According to the National Statistical Institute, 37,364 people changed their address abroad with an address in Bulgaria in 2020. Almost half of them are aged 39 or under. 80% of the people who returned to Bulgaria are of working age. 3,000 of them settled in Plovdiv.
666,398 people, or 9.6% of the Bulgaria’s population are permanently registered in Plovdiv district.
