Prosecutor General Geshev invites caretaker Minister of Interior Rashkov to a working meeting

Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev invited this country’s caretaker Deputy Primier and Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov to a working meeting. Earlier, the caretaker government accused the Prosecutor's Office of attempting to interfere in its work. The cabinet made a statement following the search of Angel Papalezov's home and the recent actions of the Prosecutor's Office- Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev summoned the new heads of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the State Agency for National Security and the State Agency Technical Operations. The spokesperson of Bulgaria’s caretaker government Anton Kutev accused the Prosecutor’s Office of attempting to interfere in the work of the government and warned that its actions could develop into an open war between the institutions.

"The attack of the Prosecutor‘s Office happens in a moment when Angel Papalezov joined a working group to investigate the wiretapping of politicians from the opposition", said lawyer Emil Georgiev from the "Justice for Everyone" initiative in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.

Meanwhile, Elena Ficherova, who was appointed head of Boyko Rashkov's cabinet, filed a request to be released from her post at her own will. The illegal wiretapping of politicians and the attempts to intimidate employees from the special services trigerred protests against Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Geshev. A protest organized by the coalition "Stand up! Thugs out!" was held earlier day. A protest of the "Justice for Everyone" initiative is scheduled for 7 pm in front of the Sofia Court House . Another protest is expected to take place in the town of Plovdiv at 7 pm.
