Pandemic and drought bring down price of arable land

The price of arable land, and the rent from it, has dropped for the first time after 8 straight years of increase, National Statistical Institute data show.

In 2020, owing to the pandemic the average price of one hectare of arable land in Bulgaria was 5,330 euro, whereas one year earlier the price was 5,380 euro. Seven years ago one hectare cost 3,620 euro – prices excluding VAT and notarial fees. Rent has also dropped by 6.1% - from 25 to 235 euro per hectare.
