Employers' organizations have sent a letter to the Interior Ministry, the State Agency for National Security, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the Prosecutor General, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office requesting a detailed check of the high electricity price for businesses. The businesses insist that pre-trial proceedings be instituted is there is data for a committed crime. According to them, the price of electricity threatens the economy and national security of Bulgaria.
For the period July 27 - August 5, 2021 on the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange on the platform "A Day Ahead", the average price for 1 MWh of base power is in the range of EUR 90 - EUR 169, and in some hours it jumps over EUR 204. This makes electricity in Bulgaria the most expensive in all of Europe, as it is over 50% more expensive than the EU average.
