A large-scale protest of companies from the road construction industry from all over the country has blocked the centre of Sofia. Hundreds of workers from road construction and road maintenance companies are demanding payment of the accumulated state debts to them. According to protesters, the amount is about 650m euros.

Construction companies are facing bankruptcy, unable to pay salaries and pay suppliers, and roads in the country are collapsing due to suspended regular repairs. This is how engineer Georgi Zlatev from the Roads Branch Chamber explained to the BNR's Horizon program the reason for the protest. He said that in the last half year, virtually all payments to the sector have been suspended.
