At a meeting with representatives of the road construction and maintenance companies who organized protests last week over unpaid salaries, President Rumen Radev pointed to the need of a transparent formation of the budget of the Road Infrastructure Agency.

In Rumen Radev’s words “No matter who is in power, the state has a responsibility that workers be paid for their work, and sustainable solutions must be sought for resolving the problems.”

On their part the companies stressed that the payables accumulated engender a great deal of tension in the sector, and that the maintenance of the national road network as a whole has been halted. In connection with this they stated they were ready to hold a constructive dialogue with the caretaker government for finding a solution to the problem.
