On October 1, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio will open its new season. The concert will take place in Bulgaria Hall, and the radio symphonists dedicate it to their professional holiday - the International Day of Music, as well as to the Orthodox feast of the Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrov Bogorodichen), both celebrated on the first day of October.
The concert will include works specially selected by the orchestra conductor Mark Kadin - Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, "Mother of God, Here I stand” by John Tavener (premiere for Bulgaria), "Vlaherna. Protection of the Mother of God” by Georgi Arnaudov, as well as Concerto No. 3 for Piano and Orchestra by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
The work of the great Russian composer was written and performed by himself for the first time in the United States, together with the New York Symphony Society, today the New York Symphony Orchestra. It is considered to be one of the most difficult works in the genre, a real test for even the greatest of pianists. Rachmaninoff shared with his friends and colleagues that he liked his Third Piano Concerto even more than the Second - one of his most recognizable works globally to this day.
For the performance of this work on October 1, the challenge is accepted by Konstantin Emelyanov - the young Russian pianist, an Yamaha artist, who visited Bulgaria for the first time in 2019, again for the beginning of the concert season of the BNR Symphony Orchestra. Konstantin is a laureate of a number of prestigious awards, among which perhaps the most impressive is his third place at the Tchaikovsky International Competition.
Along with the concerts planned for the new season, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra will have an active recording activity, in which special emphasis will be placed on iconic works from the Bulgarian musical history.
