Kyustendil marks 150 years since the modern translation of the Holy Bible

In 2021, Bulgaria marks 150 years since the modern translation of the Holy Bible into Bulgarian, also known as the Constantinople edition. It was translated by Petko Slaveykov. The “Source of future” foundation is holding a series of events across Bulgaria dedicated to the Holy Bible and its contribution to the history of Bulgarian culture and spirituality. After the liberation of this country from the Ottoman rule, Bulgarians got the first contemporary translation of the Bible as a unifying agent. “The Constantinople Bible resolved the language dispute in Bulgaria and established the Bulgarian literary language”, the renowned Bulgarian writer and poet Ivan Vazov once wrote.

Between October 3 and 5 all residents and guests of the town of Kyustendil can visit the “Bible Exhibition”. Special information panels acquaint visitors with the spiritual value and the permanence of the holy text. Visitors can read details about the Holy Bible on the interactive wall and watch the film “The battle for the box” dedicated to the anniversary of the Constantinople Bible.
