A lockdown over the pandemic is unavoidable: mathematician Prof. Ognyan Kunchev

“The data regarding the coronavirus cases is incomplete and the pandemic danger is being underestimated,” Prof. Ognyan Kunchev, mathematician from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said for the BNR. So as to include the number of people infected with Covid-19 who are asymptomatic, the figures from the coronavirus data should be multiplied at least by four.

 “What is now happening – the number of infections, of hospitalizations and deaths – was clear and predictable months ago. But the worst of it is that the tempest is against us. Whatever measures we may introduce, even full lockdown, the effect will only be felt in two weeks’ time,” Prof. Kunchev says. In his words the effect of the green certificate will also be felt in at least 15 days’ time. “In that time the health system is going to collapse and a lockdown is unavoidable,” he adds.
