Cases of the Delta Plus variant have been detected in Bulgaria, data of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases show. Most cases of the new variant were reported in Burgas and Sofia. The new Delta Plus variant was also detected in Stara Zagora, Varna, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil.

"The coronavirus continues to mutate. We detected the new Delta Plus variant in 16 out of 440 samples in October, the Director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Professor Iva Hristova said in an interview for bTV. The new variant is 10% more infectious than Delta. However, vaccinated people have protection against the new coronavirus variant, noted Professor Hristova.

In her words, the mandating of a green certificate has already yielded results and Covid-19 morbidity is expected to fall within 2 weeks.
