The Minister of Agriculture Hristo Bozukov will file a signal to the Prosecutor's Office over illegal orders by a former director of the Food Agency. An inspection showed that the control body acted in favor of several large Bulgarian companies. Imports of chicken meat were restricted under doubts of having salmonella, the minister said in an interview with BNR.

According to an order by the former director, poultry meat could be banned from reaching the market until the results of a laboratory test were obtained, even without a case of salmonella. According to Bozukov, this was a prerequisite for corrupt practices by employees controlling imports of poultry meat from Poland and third countries. According to NSI data, in the period January 2020 to the end of August 2021, there was no positive case of salmonella detected, Bozukov said.
