“The Gli Accordati Ensemble came to life spontaneously in 2014, as a realization of a long-standing dream of mine, as a singing form of friendship and an expression of mutual accordance. This is what our name means - "tuned", “in tune” with each other, with the audience, with music,” says the group’s conductor Dragomir Yosifov. The vocal ensemble Gli Accordati will perform a Christmas concert called "Abbots and Histrions". The date is December 14, the venue – Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio.
On December 19, the recording of the Gli Accordati concert with conductor Dragomir Yosifov will be broadcast on 16 public radio stations in 11 countries on three continents - Europe, North America and Australia, as part of the programme of the European Broadcasting Union to mark Euroradio's Christmas Music Day.
The special Christmas Music Day of Euroradio was first celebrated in 1995, and since then, always on the last Sunday before Christmas, EBU member radio stations have offered one-hour concerts with classical music associated with the holiday.
The concert "Abbots and Histrions" will be the Bulgarian participation this year. The concert will feature works from different eras (16th, 17th, and 20th centuries), united by the motto - Today Christ is born! Among the authors are Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Orlando di Lasso, Clemment Jannequin, Gesualdo, Mahler, Stravinsky, Poulenc, Arvo Pärt and others. Let us recall that in Latin “histriō” means stage actor, performer and the word was used to describe the wandering actors in Europe in the Early Middle Ages, who combined speech, music, acrobatics, etc.
The very title of the concert programme suggests not only the nature of the works included in it, but also the general idea of the musicians in the ensemble, “We are singers, singing conductors and – a (almost) non-singing conductor . I remember a great British ensemble called the Joyful Company of singers - this name, with everything behind it, that attracted me and made us try - can ensemble vocal art really be joyful, pure and tuned again?”, conductor Dragomir Yosifov sums up.
