7.8% is the inflation rate in Bulgaria for 2021. The last time such a rate has been registered was in 2008, the National Statistical Institute says. Because of the pandemic, the forecasts for 2022 are for inflation of 6%. This will reduce consumption, and economic growth respectively down to 3.6-3.9%.

The steepest price rise during the year is of foodstuffs – cooking oil by 24.4%, followed by bread – 15.2%, dairy products and eggs – 9.8%. The prices of vegetables have gone up by 12.4%, and of fruit – by 9.6%.  Transport costs have gone up by 22.2%.

Clothes (0.8%), communications (5.3%) and airline tickets (7.8%) are the only commodities whose prices have gone down year-over-year.
