National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases reports another drop in 14-day Covid-19 incidence rate

The National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases reports a new drop in the 14-day Covid-19 incidence rate in Bulgaria – 1,302 per 100,000 residents, as compared to 1,360 a day earlier. The reproduction number is 0.95 with a downward tendency regarding new infections and the burden on hospitals.

We have come out of the peak of the Omicron wave, mathematician Prof. Nikolay Vitanov from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences states in the statistical analysis, and adds he expects the high mortality rate to decline soon.

However, the World Health Organization called for increased vaccination efforts in Eastern Europe, warning that the Omicron "tidal wave" is heading eastwards.

“Less than 40% of over-60s have completed their COVID-19 vaccine series in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan,” the WHO's regional director for Eastern Europe Hans Kluge said, and added that in Bulgaria, Georgia and North Macedonia under 40% of health care workers had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
