I expect the Bulgarian government to consider all possible options for the purchase of 8 more planes for our fighter aviation, President Rumen Radev commented on the US approval for Sofia to buy 8 more F-16s, adding them to the 8 already paid for.

Eight more F-16s are needed for Bulgaria to defend its air sovereignty and to fulfil its commitments to NATO's integrated air defence system, where we have clear responsibilities, the President said.

He warned that Bulgaria should not allow its defence capabilities to fail in the current critical times. He called on the government to take a "rational decision".

No country can have only eight aircraft, a whole squadron is needed, Radev added.
