“No commitment has been assumed for lifting the Bulgarian veto regarding North Macedonia – the negotiations will continue and all accords between the two countries will be taken into account,” Andrey Gryurov, chair of the parliamentary group of We Continue the Change said in response to the accusation by There Is Such a People leader Slavi Trifonov that backstage talks were being conducted with North Macedonia.

Tomislav Donchev, deputy chair of the opposition GERB party commented that his party was against any backtracking from the veto imposed on North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations. Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov on his part demanded a national referendum on Bulgaria’s position.

“There are no secret negotiations or talks, everything being discussed is already publicly known,” the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovačevski later commented. He added that negotiations were currently being conducted between the two countries but that no mutually acceptable decision had as yet been reached.
