Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) was established at Sofia University in partnership with the two largest technological universities in Switzerland - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and the Lausanne Polytechnic University (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

The project aims to attract world-renowned academics in computer science and artificial intelligence, as well as to create top-level technology leaders and researchers, and foster the development of successful startups and entrepreneurs. In the words of President Rumen Radev, who attended the official opening of the institute, "Bulgaria has the potential to be a leading research and scientific centre in high technology."

This is not an easy task and it requires the joint efforts of many institutions, the academia and the whole society, Radev believes. The President highlighted the contribution and tireless work of prof. Martin Vechev, founder of INSAIT and professor at ETH Zurich, and a leading scientist in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence.

"INSAIT is a brilliant example of how one person with his deep knowledge, professional authority, vision for the future and enormous energy can change the course of history not only of a country, but of an entire region," the Head of State noted and stressed that the establishment of this institute was result of the united efforts of four Bulgarian cabinets - two regular and two caretake governments - which have worked for a high national goal. "I am sure that if the Bulgarian-Swiss programme proceeds to the realization of its second stage and we create several such institutes, we will have a much more constructive political environment in Bulgaria," Rumen Radev said.
