112 km southeast of the capital Sofia and 37 km west of Bulgaria’s second-biggest city Plovdiv lies Pazardzhik - a town which, due to its favourable climate, is one of the Bulgaria’s most fertile centres for the growing of fruits and vegetables. Here visitors can see one of the most beautiful wood-carved iconostasis in Bulgaria. It is found in the Church of the Holy Assumption of the Mother of God dating back to 1837, the largest preserved church from the National Revival Period in the country. The iconostasis was carved by Macedonian masters in the course of 10 years and is currently under the protection of UNESCO.
