There is no direct military threat to national security, but when a war is waged a few hundred kilometers from Bulgaria, the risks are high, the country's Defense Minister Dragomir Zakov told BNR. He has no fears that "Bulgaria will be left without assistance from its allies for the protection of the Bulgarian sky".

The minister described as "excessive" the statement of President Rumen Radev that the decision to provide military-technical assistance to Ukraine would drag the country in a conventional war.
"Bulgaria has been in a hybrid war for a long time. Bulgaria is a victim of a hybrid war. The result is the fear in Bulgarian society that someone might attack us," Zakov said.
The Minister extended a greeting to all Bulgarian citizens on the occasion of St. George's Day and especially to women and men in uniform.
