Bulgarian Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov is on an official visit to Greece at the invitation of his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos.

Today, the two ministers discuss co-operation between Bulgaria and Greece in the sphere of defense and prospects for further development, as well as bilateral relations in the framework of NATO-EU partnership.

Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos tested positive for Covid-19 today, so Bulgaria’s Defence Minister met with the Deputy Minister of National Defence Nikolaos Hardalias.

“It is a true sign of friendship that Greece has undertaken to provide an anti-tank platoon as part of the Bulgarian battle group,” Minister Zakov said after the meeting, and added that it was something the Bulgarian army needed. Another talking point during the meeting was the possible exchange of experience in the use and maintenance of F-16 aircraft, as well as the broadening of cooperation in military training. Dragomir Zakov pointed out that Bulgaria and Greece are in agreement on their assessment of what is happening in Ukraine and the risks to the Black Sea, to Europe and the region of the Western Balkans.
