The Bulgarian National Assembly has made a historic decision to support the unblocking of North Macedonia’s path to EU accession, within specific parameters, reads a position by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published after the National Assembly voted to green light the start of EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia.
“We express our readiness to proceed to the signing of the protocol under article 12 of the Friendship., Goodneighbourhood and Cooperation Agreement with the republic of North Macedonia,” the document reads further.
The Foreign Ministry of Bulgaria points out that it is now time for the responsible factors in North Macedonia to demonstrate, not with words, but with actions, their commitment to their own European future, and that of the region. The position reads further that the speed at which North Macedonia will draw closer to European membership is in its own hands, and that it will not be held up if it fulfils its commitments to European values and good neighbourly relations.
