Long lines and chaos on the border with Turkey

It takes between 5 and 8 hours to cross the Malko Tarnovo checkpoint

Long queues, chaos and tension reign at the border crossing "Malko Tarnovo - Dereköy" on the Turkish side of the border. Listeners of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported that crossing the checkpoint could take between 5 and 8 hours.

Last night the queue of waiting vehicles was 5 km long, BNR reporter Maria Fileva reported. "The delay is due to the organisation set up by the Turkish side, where people have to wait in two queues alternately - first to be photographed and then to have their vehicle documents checked. At the same time, cars and buses park in disarray and block each other's way," Fileva says.

She warns Bulgarians travelling with identity cards to keep the stamped form they will be given, as if they lose it they will have a problem when leaving Turkey.
