Numerous people joun mountain run from Sofia centre to Vitosha's highest peak

Hundreds of running enthusiasts and professional runners took part in the traditional mountain run "Vitosha Run" on Sunday. The start was given at 9:00 a.m. in front of the National Palace of Culture in the capital Sofia. 
The 18-kilometer route from the National Palace of Culture to Cherni vrah - the highest peak of Vitosha, the mountain at the foot of which Sofia is located, has a total positive elevation gain of 1,734 meters. The race was won by Shaban Mustafa among the men with a result of 01:45:46 and Maria Nikolova among the women with 02:06:11, the organizers from Marathon Association report.
The event is part of the celebration of the 127th anniversary of the founding of the organized tourism movement in Bulgaria. 
The events on this occasion began on Friday with the laying of flowers in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, from where, on August 27, 1895, Aleko Konstantinov led 300 people to Cherni vrah peak. This is the first organized mountain hike in Bulgaria.
