President Rumen Radev expressed the hope that the political forces will conduct a campaign “with an eye to the future”, as well as in the interest of society. Talking to reporters at Sofia Airport, President Radev, who was returning from a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, expressed the hope that the parties will learn their lessons and that, during this campaign, they will not burn bridges which they can use to negotiate on the formation of a government.

Regarding the soaring prices of gas and fuels, the President commented that their reduction calls for resolute action. In Rumen Radev’s words, the rise in prices is due to the two tankers of LNG, negotiated in July at almost double the maximum price declared by businesses and by consumers to be tolerable. “As you can see an Azeri gas mix cannot cushion these shockingly high figures,” Rumen Radev said, and added that under the circumstances the caretaker government must work on all possible options to guarantee reliable supplies at affordable prices. In Rumen Radev’s words, Gazprom is one of the options which has not been exhausted yet, though not at all cost but only if good conditions are negotiated in terms of price and deferral of deliveries.
