On September 6, Tsanko Tsankov will embark on his next challenge - he will become the first Bulgarian to participate in the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Africa, part of the Ocean's Seven marathon chain

The start is in the morning at 07:15 Spanish time (08:15 Bulgarian time).

"I have a very tough nearly 20 km ahead of me in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean to reach the African coast in Morocco. I believe that the strength of the Bulgarian spirit and your positive energy will help me to cope with this challenge and wave the Bulgarian flag, swimming the distance between the two continents," Tsankov wrote on social media.

Tsankov holds the world record for 12 hours of non-stop swimming in a 50-metre pool since 2020.

To secure his place in Gibraltar, Tsankov took part in a 5,000m qualifier in Barcelona in April, finishing first out of 167 contenders.
