Should Russia’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova be invited to the inaugural sitting of the new parliament? This question sparked sharp dispute among the members of the new 48th National Assembly which is to start work on October 19.

The coalition "Democratic Bulgaria", which has already announced that it will submit a draft resolution on sending military-technical assistance to Ukraine immediately after the convening of the new National Asssembly, has proposed that the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Eleonora Mitrofanova is not on the list of officials invited for the ceremony. However, the proposal of Democratic Bulgaria", was supported only by "We Continue the Change". The Bulgarian Socialist Party and "Vazrazhdane" party have opposed it. The other parliamentary forces have not taken a position.

"We will not allow this to happen, because it will further increase tensions between Bulgaria and Russia," Vazrazhdane party said. Later, on Facebook, GERB party also spoke out against the presence of Ambassador Mitrofanova at the first sitting of the new Parliament.
