On the Day of Bulgarian National Enlighteners the national flag was solemnly raised in front of the presidency as President Rumen Radev greeted the Guard.
At the festive ceremony, President Radev pointed out that the names of St. Ivan Rilski, Matei Preobrazhenski, Zahari Zograf, Vasil Levski, as well as those of the thousands of today's teachers are all linked thanks to the Bulgarian spiritual category of enlightener's work.
"The Enlightener is not necessarily a person of intellectual work. An enlightener can be anyone who brings enlightenment to others through their words and deeds. Self-sacrifice and humble service to the people often awakens conscience even more than knowledge does," Radev said.
November 1 marks the 100th anniversary of the first celebration of the Day of National Enlighteners.
