Rescue excavations in Northwest Bulgaria reveal priceless finds from prehistory

Along the route of the Botevgrad-Mezdra expressway, during rescue archaeological excavations, dozens of objects have been unearthed. So far the most remarkable artefact is a 12-13 century AD bronze seal ring with an image of Heraldic Eagle.

Part of the excavations on an area of 20 thousand sq. m. are near the village of Durmantsi. The archaeologists there are studying structures from three periods - from the Early Iron Age at the beginning of the first millennium BC, from the Late Thracian period (2-4 century AD) and from the Bulgarian Middle Ages of (7-14 century). 

The other rescue site is near the village of Lyutidol, where there are structures dating from two periods - the transitional period between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age and the Late Antiquity. 

The excavations will continue until December and, after a break during the winter, will resume in spring.
