Academician Lyudmil Staykov receives the state award "St. Paisius of Hilendar"

At a ceremony in the National History Museum, Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev bestowed Bulgarian noted film director Lyudmil Staykov with the state award "St. Paisius of Hilendar". Academician Staykov, who recently turned 85 years old, noted that the award brings him together with artists for whom he has deep respect and admiration. "Only a country that pays attention to the spiritual sphere has a future," the director also said during the ceremony.

The famous film director was awarded for his contribution to the development of Bulgaria's national cultural identity and spiritual values. He is a teacher at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Art "Krastyo Sarafov" (NATFIZ) and among the founders of film education in Bulgaria. 
His films, including the trilogy "Khan Asparukh", presented Bulgaria at dozens of international festivals around the world, and Academician Staykov himself is the winner of numerous awards, as well as the Order of Academic Palms of France.

The annual state award "St. Paisius of Hilendar", established in 2000, is awarded to stimulate Bulgarian artists and performers of works related to Bulgarian history and traditions.
