During a telephone conversation on Friday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that Bulgaria expects the results it has achieved in protecting the EU external borders to be acknowledged by all European partners and that the country will join the Schengen area as soon as possible.

"Connectivity is of key importance in times of crisis and disrupted or severely hampered supply chains...  which is why it should be prioritized," President Radev emphasized.

The European Commission President expressed her support for Bulgaria's accession to Schengen and highlighted the results achieved by this country in protecting EU borders despite the strong migration pressure.
