The MPs rejected the declaration proposed by "We Continue the Change" party which demanded that the caretaker cabinet submit a draft budget for 2023. Only "Democratic Bulgaria", the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and "We Continue the Change" voted in favor.
During the four-hour debate, the lawmakers exchanged many sharp remarks. "Business is unable to plan its activities. There is no framework of government expenditure and we are leaving the country on autopilot", said Assen Vassilev, Co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" and former minister of finance.
The leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Mustafa Karadayi, disagreed with this statement. "Shifts can be made to ensure different expenditures within the framework of revenues while keeping the financial framework", said Mustafa Karadayi.
According to the leader of BSP Kornelia Ninova, the refusal to submit a budget is "a trap set by the country’s President".
Yesterday, the National Assembly adopted at first reading the extension of the 2022 state budget.
