Government gives green light for construction of Alexandroupolis-Burgas oil pipeline

The Bulgarian Cabinet approved two agreements for the supply of oil and natural gas from Greece.

One of the memorandums gives a green light to the Ministry of Energy to work with the counterpart Greek ministry for the construction of the Alexandroupolis-Burgas oil pipeline. The pipeline will enable the supply of oil of non-Russian origin. The capacity of the proposed oil pipeline is expected to provide, at a minimum, full replacement of imports of Russian crude oil to Bulgaria by sea from alternative sources, the government press service said.

A second memorandum between the energy ministries of the two countries provides for the transportation of liquefied natural gas, the reservation of slots and the possibility for Greece to use the capacity of the gas storage facility in Chiren. To enter into force, the document must be ratified by the National Assembly.
