Bulgaria's Pamporovo with ambition to become a boutique resort in the Balkans

Pamporovo has seen significant growth in visitors from Balkan markets over the past 3 months, including tourists from Romania, Moldova, North Macedonia and Serbia, said resort executive director Marian Belyakov. At a meeting with representatives of the Association of Turkish Tour Operators TÜRSAB, who visited Pamporovo as part of an informational tour, he explained that the plans for the development of the mountain resort are not in the direction of a mass resort. 

"The region has about 8-9 thousand hotel beds. We want in 5-6 years Pamporovo to be a boutique, luxurious and expensive resort", Belyakov pointed out. According to him, the ski service should not be seen as something cheap. Over the past 10 years, extremely large funds have been and continue to be invested in the ski area, Belyakov said.
Bulgarian tourists have the highest relative share among visitors in Pamporovo, followed by the British market. The Turkish market is approximately in 5th place. According to Belyakov, tourists from Bulgaria's south-eastern neighbour would be much more if visas were not required and he called for the visa regime to be eased.
