Bulgaria sends new aid to Turkey and Syria

Most of the Bulgarian rescue teams have already returned from Turkey. At the moment, another 80 people are on their way back, while there are still four military medics that remain in Turkey, head of the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population", ch. commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, has told BNR.

He reported that Bulgaria was one of the most active countries that sent teams to the place of the devastating earthquake. According to him, at this stage sending new teams is not planned. According to Dzhartov, sending rescuers to Syria is infinitely complicated. The risk is very high but work is underway to provide humanitarian aid. The package is ready and waiting to be flown on-board “Spartan” aircraft today.

"We are providing humanitarian aid to Turkey. We expect the loading of this aid to begin today. It includes tents for about 800 people, which are equipped with heating devices. There are also blankets, sleeping sets," Dzhartov added.

The number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeded 41,200 people, with 35,400 people killed in Turkey. Many people in the affected areas are leaving their homes. Most of the search operation have already ended and demolition of the buildings and clearing of the ruins has started, but in some places rescuers continue their work.
