5,621 candidates will be vying for a seat in the 49th National Assembly of Bulgaria

The campaigning for the election for members of the 49th National Assembly of Bulgaria begins at midnight tonight.

5,621 candidates will be vying for a seat in the 240-seat parliament, some have been registered in two electoral lists, Central Election Committee spokesperson Rositsa Mateva announced. 14 parties, 7 coalitions and 2 independent candidates will be taking part in the 2 April election. For the first time in Bulgaria, at these elections there will be video surveillance. Election campaigning has to take place in the Bulgarian language. The deadline for submitting applications for voting abroad is 7 March, and by 11 March the Central Election Committee will determine the number of polling stations outside Bulgaria.
